The project
After the condition analysis prepared by Timbatec, Timbatec was responsible for fire protection and building physics. The shed could be preserved, but had to be upgraded. Today it contains the playgroup and workshops. One half of the barn had to be completely demolished and rebuilt. In the other half, the shell could be left standing, and the ceilings and interior walls were rebuilt. This house-in-house solution now houses the 4 apartments, common rooms and studios.
The construction
The timber construction was done in element construction. The surfaces of wood inside and outside are all visible. The internal wall cladding is made of gypsum fiberboard. The new floor slab and staircases are concreted.
The challenge
The existing barn had to be demolished on the one hand and provisionally supported on the other. This required careful handling of the supporting structure and the facade of the barn. Special attention was paid to the building physics requirements for sound and moisture protection.
