New life is being breathed into the former cardboard factory in Deisswil near Bern. Thanks to the multi-storey wooden addition and the conversion of the existing factory buildings, a new quarter is being created. Currently, the wooden elements are being assembled.
In Deisswil near Bern, more than 250 employees produced cartonboard for the whole of Switzerland before the machines were shut down in 2010. Investor Hans-Ulrich Müller took over the cardboard factory and launched a project to breathe new life into the the factory buildings a new lease of life. Today, a new quarter is being created with 170 rental apartments and commercial space under the name of Bernapark.
The venerable factory buildings are still of good quality and allowed for further development. They were therefore not demolished, but extended by two floors with a wooden extension. Above the factory building, apartments with a far-reaching view are being built. At the moment, the cranes are lifting the last wooden elements to lofty heights, where they are being precisely assembled by the timber builders.
Timbatec developed structural concept
The company Stuberholz from Schüpfen received the order for the timber construction. This
had to adapt to the winding factory buildings. Different
of the ceiling elements and large spans required a demanding structural concept.
